ESSEX HAPPENNGS JUNE 2015

PERSONAL UPDATE
The June edition of the Essex Happenings Blog will be slightly shorter than normal as during May 2015, I enjoyed a 5 day stay at Lahey Hospital in Beverly to treat an infection in my remaining good leg. The treatment was excellent and the infection has cleared up and I was discharged but the time in the hospital and the follow up medical appointments cut into my available time.

NORTH SHORE ELDER SERVICES NEWS
On Tuesday, June 9th, North Shore Elder Services is celebrating 39 years of “making life easier” for North Shore elders and their families and caregivers.  We hope that you can join us in saluting our staff, Board Members, volunteers, and vendors who have been essential in providing needed services to more than 20,000 persons over four decades.

In light of all our busy schedules, we have planned a morning event at the Danversport Yacht Club that will permit you to celebrate with us and then get on with the rest of your day.   Coffee and pastries will be available from 7:30 a.m., breakfast served at 8:00 a.m., and our brief program will conclude by 9:00 a.m.

Individual tickets are available at $75 each.  The opportunity is available to be a Table Host at $750 (which includes ten tickets and recognition at the event) or a Corporate Sponsor at $1500 (which also includes 10 tickets and recognition as a Corporate Sponsor).  Honor an elder with a suggested donation of $39.

Tickets can be ordered online at http://nses39breakfast.eventbrite.com or calling me at 978 624 2245.

We look forward to seeing you on June 9 at the Danversport Yacht Club.  Sincerely,  Paul
Paul J. Lanzikos Executive Director North Shore Elder Services

MOST RECENT READING EXPERIENCE
During the past month, among other books, I have read is a most entertaining book called “THE RESIDENCE. Inside the Private Residence of the White House” by Kate Browner.

The book is a compilation of stories and remembrances related by the house keeping, cooks, florists and other members of the household staff in one of the most famous houses in America, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC.  The stories begin with the occupation of the property by the Kennedy family with their young children to the present occupants of the house, the Obama family with their teen-age daughters.  The book is filled with interesting, warm and sometimes difficult experiences.   The story continues through two different political party occupants with different agendas.  I will not attempt to report on the numerous incidents that occurred from Harry Truman through the Eisenhower,  Johnson, Reagan, two Bush families and the Clinton family with a teen age daughter and numerous social matters. The book was highly entertaining and informative and I strongly recommend the book

CONDOLENCES
My personal condolences are offered to the family of Mr. James McCann of Danvers who passed away earlier this month.   Jim is a fellow Golden Eagle from St John’s Prep, someone I played golf with and because of my hospital stay, I was unable to attend his recent wake and funeral.
